Funding the future

Funding the Future: Why philanthropic help is needed

Students in labThe Centenary Campaign is of critical importance to the College and our determination to remain master of our own destiny. The principles of our founding mission and earlier academic freedoms have enabled generations of staff and students to make the scientific breakthroughs that transform and improve lives. Continued academic independence requires financial flexibility.

The College is immensely successful in winning research grants and contracts, and our student fee income, particularly from overseas has grown significantly during the formative years of our campaign. However, a quick glance at our annual accounts shows that we still operate on the very tightest of margins - an operating surplus of less than £100k on a turnover of £500m in the last financial year.

Philanthropic gifts and donations therefore make a huge impact on our ability to function, enabling the College to invest in the areas most vital to its future development and success. They are the lifeblood of the College's heritage, and, through our Centenary Campaign, the lifeblood of our future.
