CSE pervades much of the research at Imperial. Imperial has international expertise not only in computational simulation tools, but also in the development of novel methods that extend beyond standard techniques. This includes both numerical methods and software technologies. This expertise is distributed across all the Departments of the College.

The Centre for Computational Methods in Science and Engineering (CMSE) serves to integrate and build this community of researchers, and to realize its potential in bringing powerful new methods into engineering and science practice.

Objectives of the Centre

The Centre will facilitate interaction between engineers, scientists, industries and society to:

  • Provide a focus for development of foundational tools and methods that cut across individual disciplines.
  • Facilitate cross-disciplinary research in CMSE (eg. to capitalize on current and future multicore and multithreaded hardware architectures).
  • Tackle the shortage of scientists with strong CMSE training.
