Upcoming Imperial Crick events
Event: The Francis Crick Institute: Opportunities to Engage
Date: Wednesday 28 February 2018, 16.00-18.30
Venue: Seminar Suite, The Francis Crick Institute, 1 Midland Road, Kings Cross, London NW1 1AT
Imperial College London is a founding partner of The Francis Crick Institute helping to shape the Crick's scientific vision, alongside King’s College London and University College London. Our engagement will ensure that collaborations between the world-class scientists and medical researchers from the College and the Crick continue for many years to come.
We are hosting an information and networking event to showcase the opportunities available to Imperial staff and students at the Crick’s unique facility designed to encourage interdisciplinary interaction. Join us to hear from Imperial leadership and current Imperial staff on attachment or supervising PhD students and to spark some new collaborations with the Crick researchers.
The evening will include the chance to network with researchers during the drinks reception. The Imperial team will be on hand to tell you more about the opportunities available, the application processes and how to sign up for one of our upcoming tours of the facilities available.
Please register here to confirm your place.
Past Imperial Crick events
Event: The 10th annual Peter Lindsay lecture presented by Professor Sir Paul Nurse, Director of the Francis Crick Institute
Date: Wednesday 15 February 2017, 17.30 – 18.30
Venue: Lecture Theatre G16, Sir Alexander Fleming Building, Imperial College, South Kensington Campus
Three of the great ideas of biology are the gene theory, the theory of evolution by natural selection, and the proposal that the cell is the fundamental unit of all life. When considering the question of what is life these ideas come together, because the special way cells reproduce provides the conditions by which natural selection takes place allowing living organisms to evolve. A fourth idea is that the organization of chemistry within the cell provides explanations for life’s phenomena. A new idea is the central role that information management plays in generating biological organization. These ideas are also relevant for what it is to be human.
