Ludovica Monti is a Marie Curie Research Fellow at the Imperial College London.

Ludovica received her doctoral degree in Life Sciences from Sapienza University in Rome, during which, she conducted her studies between Italy and USA. The outstanding research she conducted as a graduate student in the drug discovery field for cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and neglected tropical diseases was recognised with the prestigious Minerva Award by Sapienza University. Following her PhD, Ludovica joined the laboratories of Drs. Caffrey and Ballatore at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) as a postdoctoral researcher. There, she applied interdisciplinary sciences, including organic chemistry and in vitro and in vivo biological characterization of microtubule-targeting agents, to discover novel treatments for neglected tropical diseases; namely, African sleeping sickness and schistosomiasis for which there are only a few non-optimal drugs available. As a member of the Center for Discovery and Innovation in Parasitic Diseases at UCSD, Ludovica’s research showed clinical potential through the development of new chemical entities as therapeutic agents and translating the understanding of structure-activity relationships to improve available treatments for patient care.

As a Marie Curie Research Fellow in Dr. Di Antonio’s group, Ludovica will use her expertise in drug discovery and parasitology to explore novel G4-based molecular approaches, involving genomics and transcriptomics, to combat parasitic diseases.
