Hans SonkeHans works as a Materials and Corrosion Engineer within Shell. From a practical background, his curiosity has driven him along a career towards roles that include engineering as well as research and development. With over 20 years of relevant experience in the field of materials and corrosion Hans has developed a strong focus on developing and applying in depth knowledge for practical solutions as well as ensuring effective sustainable implementation.

In his current role, his job includes being a Team Lead for Materials & Corrosion in the Shell Technology Centre in Amsterdam as well as the role of Subject Matter Expert (SME) “Corrosion Prediction and Control” for upstream projects and operations.

Hans' expertise involves upstream corrosion (incl. CO2-, H2S-, organic acid corrosion and corrosion inhibition) as well as corrosion management and protective coatings. He has been involved with development of industry standards and guidelines as well as over 20 relevant publications.
