A dual redundant routing bus is used by the DPU to communicate with the individual instrument sub-units: DC-DC converter, spacecraft interface, ADC (analogue to digital converter), MSA (Micro Structure Analyzer) and the OB and IB detection electronics & sensors. The instrument has a number of telemetry modes (detailed in data products) which provide for variable data rates according to to the mission timeline. The MSA card is used to capture events at very high data rates and also as a despin data buffer during periods where there is no ground station coverage. The instrument is fully redundant with back-up units operating as cold spares. Apart from the ADC chip (spot shielded with Tantalum) all components are radiation hardended. The instrument block diagram indicates the institute provider for the individual sub-units.
