Dear Student,

The spread of COVID-19 is causing concern everywhere. Our first priority is your health and safety and we are closely following Public Health England (PHE) and NHS advice to ensure that Imperial is a safe place to work and study. PHE guidance indicates the College remains at a low level of risk and our campuses and halls of residence remain open.

Yesterday the UK Government moved from the containment to the delay phase for the COVID-19 outbreak. The delay phase involves reducing close contact between people to slow down community transmission to smooth demand on the NHS. We are supporting the delay phase by reducing the number of people who are on campus each day.

We have some new guidance for you in line with this approach:

Teaching and Assessment

  • From Monday 16 March we will be delivering all teaching remotely.
  • From Wednesday 18 March we will be delivering all formal written examinations remotely. This includes all formal written examinations in the Summer Term.
  • Where it is not possible to deliver exams remotely they will be rescheduled.
  • Some exams will take place in person on Monday and Tuesday in venues as already scheduled. In these cases we will be deep cleaning examination rooms and using low-density seating plans.
  • There are some exceptions in place for students on the MBBS programme. The Faculty of Medicine will contact you directly about these.
  • Our library, computer clusters and student support services remain available next week.

Health and Wellbeing

  • If you have symptoms of coronavirus infection however mild, you should stay home for seven days from when your symptoms started and follow PHE stay at home guidance.
  • Everyone should follow PHE recommendations for personal hygiene and disinfection of physical spaces. We are also increasing our cleaning of common spaces, classrooms and gathering areas.
  • We understand that many of you will be feeling anxious. Please do reach out to colleagues, friends and family and support each other. The College’s student support services also remain available to all members of the community.

Travel

  • We advise limiting travel to only that which is essential for work or family reasons.

Please continue to check the College COVID-19 webpage for updates, advice and guidance. As always, you can email coronavirus-guidance@imperial.ac.uk with your ideas and questions.

We are monitoring the situation closely and will update you with any changes to our advice.  We are proud of our community and thankful for your strong support of one another and for your help in ensuring that our College is safe, respectful and resilient.

Best wishes,

Alice and Ian
