Driving transformation in artificial intelligence, data science and digital technologies.

Launched in March 2021, I-X provides a new co-located collaborative environment for research, education, and entrepreneurship across artificial intelligence, data science and digital technologies based at our White City Campus. It serves as a blueprint for the university of the future that is unencumbered by institutional and thematic silos, seeks deep and impactful collaborations with industry and government, and delivers innovative cross-cutting teaching programmes about and with digital technologies.

The initiative recognises that facilitating co-location is essential to delivering research and education in a digital world. It aims to develop novel approaches for research, teaching and innovation through a physical co-located space and a state-of-the-art environment for virtual collaboration.  This environment will utilise the established interactive teaching and collaboration facilities to facilitate partnerships between multi-disciplinary academic teams from across our campuses, capitalising on the College's successful adaptive response to the Covid-19 pandemic. I-X aims to co-locate and deeply embed industry in the College's research and education. The initiative will seek to enable multi-disciplinary collaborations with companies and non-profit labs to help solve challenges that they cannot solve alone.

I-X is led by Professor Peter Pietzuch (Professor of Distributed Systems), Professor Chris Tucci (Professor of Digital Strategy & Innovation), Professor Guy Nason (Chair in Statistics) and Professor Eric Yeatman (Head of Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering).
