About our courses

6-week course

Monday 11 July - Friday 19 August 2022 inclusive

The 6-week course is a full-time, intensive online course for prospective Imperial students holding a conditional offer and who need to improve their English language proficiency.

Students on the course must complete all course assignments and class work to the required level and pass the three online pre-sessional assessments in the final week of the course

The aims of the course are to:

  • prepare you for the study of your science-related discipline through English
  • develop your English language skills to the level needed for College entry to begin your degree course
  • advance your academic study skills and independent learning

Passing the course means that students have fulfilled the College’s English language entry condition and do not need to re-take IELTS.

Check the entry requirements for the 6-week course.

‌3-week course

Friday 26 August - Friday 16 September 2022 inclusive

The 3-week course is a full-time, intensive orientation course for undergraduate and postgraduate students who have already met the English language requirement for their degree programme but who wish to extend and enhance their academic skills in preparation for their first term at Imperial.

The 3-week course has a fast-paced and varied programme of both online and off-line activities. Students attend live online interactive sessions for about 3 hours each day beginning at 10 am (London time). These live sessions provide focused practice in speaking and listening. They are complemented by about 4 hours of guided self-study each day to practise reading and writing, and to prepare for the live sessions.

The aims of the course are to:

  •  help students upgrade their written and oral language skills
  •  give them a good understanding of academic conventions and expectations
  •  familiarise them with Imperial facilities and resources
  •  give their career at Imperial College London the best possible start

Please note that we cannot accept applicants from Imperial College Business School. The Business School no longer offers its own pre-sessional courses, or recognises other pre-sessional courses, as a means of meeting the English language requirement. If you have any questions about this, please contact the Business School directly.
