The course builds from our well established foundations series, offered last in 2009. New and substantially updated lectures are presented by a team from Imperial College London and industry, covering key aspects of modern good practice in foundation design.

These include: the importance of geology and geotechnical ground conditions; classical and modern analysis methods for bearing capacity; definition of factors of safety.

Up-to-date settlement analyses and their underlying assumptions and reliability are discussed, together with a thorough treatment of pile design, foundations re-use and other emerging construction technologies such as heat-exchanging thermo-active foundations. Application of new design codes, such as Eurocode 7, is also addressed.

Comments from past participants

"This course should be considered as an invaluable part of continued professional training. I would recommend to my fellow engineers."

"Well qualified presenters with effective communication of new and established design principles."

"It is an excellent course, superbly designed. A must for engineers and geologists working in the construction businesses and not having specialist soil mechanics qualifications."
