Our telephones have different Classes of Service (CoS). The Class of Service controls the types of call that can be made and the features that are available by the person assigned to that extension number.

Find out the CoS on an extension

To find out what CoS is assigned to a particular number, log a query using this form: CoS enquiry.

If you are the registered user of the extension and telephone you would like to enquire about, you do not need to log a query. To find out your CoS, view your current telephone settings.

Change a CoS

To change the CoS of your extension, contact your Telecoms Representative.

Levels of Class of Service (CoS) and descriptions

1. International

Extensions with the CoS Level 1 can:

  • receive internal and external incoming calls;
  • make internal calls to other extensions;
  • make international calls;
  • make national calls;
  • make local calls;
  • make calls to mobiles;
  • make calls to Mobex;
  • use call waiting;
  • use Call Forward to an internal extension.

Extensions with the CoS Level 1 cannot:

  • make premium rate calls unless deemed necessary for College business;
  • use Call Forward to an external extension.

10. National - no call waiting

Extensions with CoS Level 10 can:

  • receive internal and external incoming calls;
  • make internal calls to other extensions;
  • make national calls;
  • make local calls;
  • make calls to mobiles;
  • make calls to Mobex;
  • use Call Forward to an internal extension.

Extensions with CoS Level 10 cannot:

  • make premium rate calls unless deemed necessary for College business;
  • make international calls;
  • use Call Waiting;
  • use Call Forward to an external number.

13. Customer set barring

Extensions with CoS Level 13 can:

  • receive internal incoming calls;
  • make internal calls to other extensions.

Extensions with CoS Level 13 cannot:

  • receive external incoming calls;
  • make premium rate calls;
  • make international calls;
  • make national calls;
  • make local calls;
  • make calls to mobiles;
  • make calls to Mobex;
  • use Call Waiting;
  • use Call Forward to an internal extension;
  • use Call Forward to an external number.

2. National

Extensions with CoS Level 2 can:

  • receive internal and external incoming calls;
  • make internal calls to other extensions;
  • make national calls;
  • make local calls;
  • make calls to mobiles;
  • make calls to Mobex;
  • use Call Waiting;
  • use Call Forward to an internal extension.

Extensions with CoS Level 2 cannot:

  • make premium rate calls unless deemed necessary for College business;
  • make international calls;
  • use Call Forward to an external number.

3. Local

Extensions with CoS Level 3 can:

  • receive internal and external incoming calls;
  • make internal calls to other extensions;
  • make local calls;
  • make calls to mobiles;
  • make calls to Mobex;
  • use Call Waiting;
  • use Call Forward to an internal extension.

Extensions with CoS Level 3 cannot:

  • make premium rate calls unless deemed necessary for College business;
  • make international calls;
  • make national calls;
  • use Call Forward to an external number.

31. International - no mobile

Extensions with CoS Level 31 can:

  • receive internal and external incoming calls;
  • make internal calls to other extensions;
  • make international calls;
  • make national calls;
  • make local calls;
  • use Call Waiting;
  • use Follow-Me and Call Forward to an internal extension.

Extensions with CoS Level 31 cannot:

  • make premium rate calls unless deemed necessary for College business;
  • make calls to mobiles;
  • make calls to Mobex;
  • use Follow-Me and Call Forward to an external number.

32. National - no mobile

Extensions with CoS Level 32 can:

  • receive internal and external incoming calls;
  • make internal calls to other extensions;
  • make national calls;
  • make local calls;
  • use Call Waiting;
  • use Call Forward to an internal extension.

Extensions with CoS Level 32 cannot:

  • make premium rate calls unless deemed necessary for College business;
  • make international calls;
  • make calls to mobiles;
  • make calls to Mobex;
  • use Call Forward to an external number.

33. Local - no mobile

Extensions with CoS Level 33 can:

  • receive internal and external incoming calls;
  • make internal calls to other extensions;
  • make local calls;
  • use Call Waiting;
  • use Call Forward to an internal extension.

Extensions with CoS Level 33 cannot:

  • make premium rate calls unless deemed necessary for College business;
  • make international calls;
  • make national calls;
  • make calls to mobiles;
  • make calls to Mobex;
  • use Call Forward to an external number.

4. Internal, short code and Mobex

Extensions with CoS Level 4 can:

  • receive internal and external incoming calls;
  • make internal calls to other extensions;
  • make calls to Mobex;
  • use Call Waiting;
  • use Call Forward to an internal extension.

Extensions with CoS Level 3 cannot:

  • make premium rate calls unless deemed necessary for College business;
  • make international calls;
  • make national calls;
  • make local calls;
  • make calls to mobiles;
  • use Call Forward to an external number.

6. International - timed 08.00 to 18.00 (outside of these times the telephone is internal only)

Extensions with CoS Level 6 can:

  • receive internal and external incoming calls;
  • make internal calls to other extensions;
  • make international calls;
  • make national calls;
  • make local calls;
  • make calls to mobiles;
  • make calls to Mobex;
  • use Call Waiting;
  • use Call Forward to an internal extension.

Extensions with CoS Level 6 cannot:

  • make external calls outside of the set times;
  • make premium rate calls unless deemed necessary for College business;
  • use Call Forward to an external number.

63. International and able to use Call Forwarding to external numbers

Extensions with CoS Level 63 can:

  • receive internal and external incoming calls;
  • make internal calls to other extensions;
  • make international calls
  • make national calls.;
  • make local calls;
  • make calls to mobiles;
  • make calls to Mobex;
  • use Call Waiting;
  • use Call Forward to an internal extension;
  • use Call Forward to an external number.

Extensions with CoS Level 63 cannot make premium rate calls unless deemed necessary for College business.

7. National - timed 08.00 to 18.00 (outside of these times the telephone is internal only)

Extensions with CoS Level 7 can:

  • receive internal and external incoming calls;
  • make internal calls to other extensions;
  • make national calls;
  • make local calls;
  • make calls to mobiles;
  • make calls to Mobex;

Extensions with CoS Level 7 cannot:

  • make external calls outside of the set times;
  • make premium rate calls unless deemed necessary for College business;

8. Local - timed 08.00 to 18.00 (outside of these times the telephone is internal only)

Extensions with CoS Level 8 can:

  • make premium rate calls unless deemed necessary for College business;

9. International - no call waiting
