Safari browser version 12 and third party cookies issues with Blackboard

When accessing the following e-lerning services via Blackboard on Safari browser version 12, you may experience the following issues:

  • Turnitin – may not allow you to submit assignments or to access PeerMark.

  • Panopto – Embedded videos into Blackboard may get the following error ‘sign-in succeeded but your browser isn’t accepting cookies’.  It gives a link to open the video in a new tab.

  • Piazza – Will inform you third party cookies are blocked and provides an option to open Piazza in a new window.

  • MapleTA - Will inform you third party cookies are disabled.

  • Leganto - Will inform you third party cookies are disabled and provides an option to open in a new window.

What has caused this?

Apple have introduced an Intelligent Tracking Prevention (ITP) feature for Safari. This feature limits how advertisers track an individual’s browsing data. Unfortunately, this has caused access problems for vendors that use cookies on sites that are embedded within other sites and thus causing the above issues.
