What is a rich media link?

A rich media link is the link to a Panopto recording that includes the screen capture, video and navigation. The link can be added to Blackboard (our Virtual Learning Environment or VLE) for viewing purposes. There are two ways in which you can add the rich media link of a capture to Blackboard:

  • Add a direct capture link, which takes you to an individual recording.
  • Add a folder link, which takes you to a folder which can hold many individual recordings.

Add the links to Blackboard

Add a direct capture link

After a capture has processed the direct capture rich media link will be emailed to all of the people listed as Creators for the folder where the file will be stored if this service has been requested.

Simply copy and paste this link into a Blackboard Weblink. It is recommended that you make this link open in a new window (through the Blackboard options), to ensure that the viewers can see the entire screen properly.

Alternatively you can access the direct capture link on the server:

  1. Go to imperial.cloud.panopto.eu
  2. Select ic.ac.uk from the Sign in using drop down menu and enter your College username and password.
  3. Click Sign In.
  4. You may need to click on View Sessions to enter the server.
  5. Locate the file that you want to access and hover over it. You will now have access to the settings.
  6. Click on the Settings cog wheel. Under the Settings tab you will see the Viewer link listed.
  7. Copy and paste this link into a Blackboard Web Link
  8. Make this link open in a new window (through the VLE options) to ensure that the viewers can see the entire screen properly.

Add a folder link

Every folder has a direct URL link associated with it. Make sure to give the viewers permissions for the folder first: Read Set viewer permissions for Panopto recordings or folders

To access the folder link:

  1. Go to imperial.cloud.panopto.eu
  2. Select ic.ac.uk from the Sign in using drop down menu and enter your College username and password.
  3. Click Sign In.
  4. Click on the folder that you want the students to view.
  5. Click on the folder Settings cog wheel on the top right hand corner.
  6. Click on the Share tab.
  7. Find the link in the Share Link field.
  8. Copy and paste this link into a Blackboard Weblink.
  9. Make this link open in a new window to ensure that the viewers can see the screen. If you do not open in a new browser window they will not be able to see the content.

Now students will be able to access the entire folder, as long as you have given them access via the permissions. If you make changes to the folder (add new recordings, delete recordings, edit recordings etc.) these will be reflected in the folder and will enable students to view the most updated content. Students will also have the option to subscribe to RSS feeds and iTunes.
