About the Document Delivery Service

This free and unlimited service is available to:

  • Imperial students and staff
  • NHS staff from trusts with links with Imperial

Requested material MUST be required for your Imperial College London or NHS work, coursework or research.

Making a document delivery request

Always check Library Search before making a request - we may have the publication either online or in print in your campus library.

If the item is not in any of our libraries or online collections use the Order books & articles link in Library Search. (For help see our short video A quick guide to placing a Document Delivery request.)

If a book is at another Imperial campus library place a request in Library Search and it will be delivered to your chosen library.

For an article from a journal at another Imperial campus library use the Order books & articles link on Library Search and we will email it to you.

Receiving journal articles from the British Library on your desktop

The British Library will send your article to your email address via their Secure Electronic Delivery service.

To open the file you will  need to install Adobe Reader version 4 or above and the FileOpen plug-in (these have already been installed on all library PCs).

The article will be available for downloading from the British Library secure server for 30 days from dispatch, after which it will be deleted. Once downloaded you can view it for up to 3 years on your PC. You are only permitted to download it ONCE. We strongly recommend that you print the document on first viewing.
