Library Services can check our licences to establish whether a book chapter or journal article can legally be made available on your VLE.

Please only ask to digitise print materials which are not available as e-books or e-journals, which you can link to.

To make a request, email the following details to

1. Course details 

This information is required for each reading list. It is available on the Department Student System (DSS).

  • Course code
  • Course name
  • Course of study duration (weeks)
  • Number of students on the course
  • Course start and end date
  • Course contact

2. Book / journal article details

Provide as much information as you can for each title.


  • Title
  • Author / Editor(s)
  • Publisher
  • Year of publication
  • Edition (if not the first edition)
  • ISBN 
  • Page range

Journal articles

3. Confirmation

a)  I confirm that the students are registered with Imperial College London and have access to the Library's e-journal collection:  yes / no (delete as appropriate)

b)  I would also like to provide students with a printed copy of the article / book chapter: yes / no (delete as appropriate)

You can use the same format to ASK the LIbrary about other types of re-use e.g. using printed copies in an exam.
