Library workshops open to Imperial staff and students

Library workshops are free of charge, hands-on and delivered by library staff. Training is in EndNote version X8.

A session is confirmed when the minimum class size (5) is reached. An unconfirmed course will be cancelled three working days in advance and those already booked will be offered places on the next available date (which will not be liable to cancellation).

Graduate School training programme

Sessions are run as part of the Graduate School Professional Skills Development Programme. They are hands-on and are delivered by library staff. They are free of charge but the Graduate School sessions may incur a non-attendance fee. Training is in EndNote version X8.

Workshop content

Each half-day course includes:

  • introduction to bibliographic software programs
  • creating and working with databases / libraries and understanding a record structure
  • adding references manually
  • importing references from online databases
  • searching a database / library of references
  • searching internet resources via the software
  • exporting references directly from online databases
  • CWYW (Cite While you Write), generating bibliography, formatting in-text citations
    backing up databases / libraries

We assume that you have:

  • familiarity with Microsoft based programs
  • familiarity with file and directory based structure
  • some experience in using bibliographic databases
  • some experience in literature searching

It is not possible to use EndNote’s Cite While You Write functionality with LaTeX/BibTeX. However it is possible to use the reference management features of EndNote to export a reference list in BibTeX format.
