Frequently asked questions
What will I gain from attending the programme?
This programme is an opportunity to experience life as a student at Imperial College London, a specialist STEM institution ranked 8th in the world. In week one students will join a learning stream and attend lectures, seminars, labs and workshops delivered by current Imperial faculty members focussed on developing understanding and practical skills. In week two students work in groups with students from all streams to solve a real-world challenge alongside staff from the Imperial College Advanced Hackspace. Students will develop group work, communication and presentation skills which are vital for all Imperial students.
Do we offer any scholarships or financial assistance?
Unfortunately we are unable to offer any discounts, scholarships, bursaries or financial assistance to cover the costs of the programme.
Criteria and applications
How do we assess applications?
We look first at whether applicants meet the age, English language and academic requirements of the programme, detailed on the Who we're looking for page. We will read the applicant's personal statement and teacher's reference. Once applicants have been scored against these five categories, we will fiinally consider the global spread and best fit of applicants across the sessions and streams.
Which qualifications do we accept as proof of English language ability?
Please check this list of international qualifications and equivalents accepted at Imperial, and if you are unsure or yours is not covered, please contact us. We are flexible in the type of qualifications we can accept for this programme.
Will I need a visa to attend the Global Summer School?
You can check if you need to apply for a visa in advance of arriving in the UK on the UK government website. If you are travelling from overseas to the Summer School you may require an invitation letter from us, once your place is confirmed on the course we can arrange to send you an invitation letter.
Can I live off-campus?
All students are required to live on-campus in Imperial student accommodation for the duration of the Summer School. The programme has a busy academic and social schedule and students will be occupied for most of the day and evening. We unfortunately cannot offer students passes to leave and return to Global Summer School during the programme.
What are the age requirements for the Global Summer School 2018?
To enrol on the Summer School in 2018 you must be 16 years old on or before 31 August 2018. You should not reach 18 years old at any point during your Summer School session.
