Outreach STEM Leaders
Imperial is home to some of the brightest minds whose passion for science, technology, engineering and medicine shines through in everything they do.
It’s this passion that we’re looking to harness through our Outreach STEM Leader scheme, which is for postgraduate students and Imperial staff.
As an Outreach STEM Leader, you’ll be responsible for supporting a team of ambassadors and leading activities for young people.
We run activities for students aged 6–18 to capture their interest in studying science, medicine and engineering at university from an early age.
The scheme operates on a casual basis so you can choose which activities you are best suited to and you'll be paid for those that you do. This gives you the flexibility to fit the work around your availability, whether this is just a couple of hours or a week-long summer school.
Who we're looking for
We’re looking for people who enjoy working with young people, who can use initiative and who are enthusiastic about sharing their passion for their subject.
To be successful in this role, you should have strong knowledge in your subject area and be able to clearly communicate your subject to young people in an engaging and accessible way.
There may also be opportunities to develop new content based on current curricula or your research.
- Paid work opportunities – flexible around the demands of your role or studies
- Opportunities to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and doctors
- Meet staff and students from across the College
Rates of pay
Our rate of pay is dependent on the kind of activity you take part in and the level of responsibility involved.
It ranges from £15.68/hour (including holiday pay) to £25.52/hour (including holiday pay).
We will let you know in advance the rate of pay for each activity.
How to apply
If you’re interested in becoming an Outreach STEM Leader, you will first need to attend one of our information sessions. More information about upcoming sessions will be available here in December 2020.
After the information session, you will be invited to attend a training session.
Please note, you can only start to work after this.
If you have any questions about the scheme, please email email@example.com.
If you're a postgraduate student, you may also be interested in our Recruitment and outreach student ambassador scheme.
Please note that while it's not currently possible to register for both schemes simultaneously, we will occasionally circulate opportunities from within the ambassador scheme to Outreach STEM Leaders, for example, recruitment events.
You also have the opportunity to register as a Unibuddy ambassador (part of the Recruitment and outreach student ambassador scheme), which is a year-round paid opportunity, answering questions from current students via our online messaging service.
