Earn while you learn

Want to earn extra money through a scheme that’s designed to fit flexibly around your studies?

Become a President's Ambassador to:

  • Develop new skills that are valued by all kinds of employers, from communication and teamwork to organisation and managing your time
  • Meet new people from across the College
  • Gain experiences to add to your Imperial Award portfolio (to build a more insightful CV) and potentially build evidence to help you earn part or all of the Imperial Award.

Please note: limited places mean that applications are currently only open to first-year undergraduates and postgraduate students.

However, there are opportunities within the scheme to join our Student Blogger team, which is open to students from all years and all levels of study.

What do President’s Ambassadors do?

The range of activities that President’s Ambassadors get involved in is very wide, including:

  • leading official Imperial College London campus tours
  • representing the College at Open Days
  • giving student life talks at schools and on-campus
  • meeting and greeting delegations of international visitors
  • ushering at special Imperial occasions

There is no minimum time commitment and you choose the activities you do and when.

We will send out a weekly email with upcoming opportunities that you can sign up for on a first-come-first-served basis. If you have other commitments that week then there is no need to respond.

What do student bloggers do?

Our Student Blogger team is part of the President’s Ambassador scheme, but they have a more specific focus – providing an authentic and honest insight into their time here, the highs and the lows, via their own blog which we will set up for you on our Student Blogs website.

Your blog can be written, video or photo-based, or a mixture of all three.

You will also have the chance to contribute, on an optional basis, to the College’s social media channels by participating in:

  • Instagram takeovers
  • day in the life vlogs
  • discussion panels with other students
  • student story features

If you are a first-year undergraduate or postgraduate student you may apply to be both a President’s Ambassador and part of the Student Blogger team within the scheme.

How much will I earn?

Our rate of pay starts at £11.86/hour (including holiday pay). We only pay you for the activities you do.

Student bloggers need to commit to producing two blogs per month, which we equate to two hours’ work at the above rate. Additional activities are paid on an hourly basis at the same rate.

What are you looking for in applicants?

Due to limited places, President’s Ambassador applications are only open to first-year undergraduates and postgraduates within any academic department. To apply to join the Student Blogs team, you can be studying any course at any level of study and in any year of study.

All applicants must be enthusiastic and comfortable with sharing their Imperial experience to a varied audience, including:

  • potential applicants
  • parents
  • teachers

Will I receive training?

President’s Ambassadors will be invited to a training day on Wednesday 6 November 2019, 14.00–17.00.

This will involve a briefing and training in:

  • public speaking
  • delivering presentations
  • leading informative public tours of our South Kensington Campus

Members of the Student blogger team do not need to attend this session (unless you’re also chosen for the full scheme) but you will be invited to a welcome meeting which is a chance for you to meet the team and receive advice and guidance on blogging.
