Process

  • Identify and contact a prospective academic sponsor in a related research area
  • Once a sponsor has been agreed, contact Allan Nyunt (a.nyunt@imperial.ac.uk)with as much notice as possible, who will guide you through the internal process to obtain financial approval from the College
  •  If a letter of support is required from the Head of Department, the sponsor will be asked to provide a draft text.

Process

  • Identify and contact a prospective academic sponsor in a related research area
  • Once a sponsor has been agreed, submit a CV and supporting statement (1x A4) to Allan Nyunt (a.nyunt@imperial.ac.uk), who will guide you through the process to obtain departmental and financial approval.
  • Your application will normally be considered by the Dept Management Committee. The factors that will be taken into consideration include the below, with the intention of assessing that the individual would be well placed to achieve their full potential:

    a. The individual’s academic excellence and academic fit to the Department;
    b. The individual's personal alignment with the Department;
    c. The availability of a suitable academic mentor
  • Some funding calls may require additional selection processes, for example to meet with members of academic staff in the Department.
  • If a letter of support is required from the Head of Department, the sponsor will be asked to provide a draft text.

Independent fellowships - More involved application process

Includes

  • A restriction on the number of applicants that can be supported by Imperial College London. In those cases, the Department will have to convene a selection panel to select and nominate a top few candidates to put forward to a College-wide committee
  • Department is expected to rank multiple applications
  • HoD is asked to provide a supporting statement

  • Once a sponsor has been agreed, submit a CV and supporting statement (1x A4) to Allan Nyunt (a.nyunt@imperial.ac.uk), who will guide you through the process to obtain departmental and financial approval.
  • Your application will be considered by a departmental panel specifically convened to consider fellowship applications to that call.  The factors that will be taken into consideration include the below, with the intention of assessing that the individual would be well placed to achieve their full potential:

    a. The individual’s academic excellence and academic fit to the Department;
    b. The individual's personal alignment with the Department;
    c. The availability of a suitable academic mentor.
