The PhD Programme
The Department of Bioengineering leads the national and international bioengineering agenda, advancing the frontiers of our knowledge in biomedical engineering, biological engineering and biomimetics.
In the most recent Research Excellence Framework (2014), 95% of the Department's returned research was judged either world-leading or internationally excellent. The Department’s research is highly interdisciplinary and involves collaborations with many other Imperial College departments as well as leading London hospitals and other international centres of research. This provides a highly stimulating environment for student research and our PhD programme attracts outstanding students from a variety of academic backgrounds. They form an integral part of the Department’s research life and numbers have risen from 12 in 2001 to over 150 PhD and MD(Res) students in 2018.
