Ara DarziProfessor The Lord Ara Darzi

Director, CRUK Imperial Centre

Professor Darzi holds the Paul Hamlyn Chair of Surgery at Imperial College London, the Royal Marsden Hospital and the Institute of Cancer Research. He is Director of the Institute of Global Health Innovation at Imperial College London and Chair of Imperial College Health Partners. He is an Honorary Consultant Surgeon at Imperial College Hospital NHS Trust.

Research led by Professor Darzi is directed towards achieving best surgical practice through innovation in surgery and enhancing patient safety and the quality of healthcare. His contribution within these research fields has been outstanding, publishing over 800 peer-reviewed research papers to date.

In recognition of his achievements in the research and development of surgical technologies, Professor Darzi has been elected as an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering; a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and in 2013 was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society.

Eric AboagyeProfessor Eric Aboagye

Scientific Director, ECMC

Eric Aboagye is Professor of Cancer Pharmacology & Molecular Imaging and Director of the CRUK-EPSRC-MRC-NIHR Comprehensive Cancer Imaging Centre. His group is interested in the discovery and development of new methods for experimental and clinical cancer molecular imaging. In the past 5 years, the team has invented and translated three novel cancer diagnostics into human application. He has acted as an advisor to GE-Healthcare, GSK, Roche and Novartis.

Charlotte BevanProfessor Charlotte Bevan

Deputy Head of the Division of Cancer

Charlotte Bevan is Professor of Cancer Biology and Deputy Head of the Division of Cancer within the Department of Surgery and Cancer. She is also the Head of Training for the CRUK Imperial Centre and is a leading expert in Prostate Cancer Biology.

Dan ElsonProfessor Dan Elson

Theme Lead: Increasing the Precision of Cancer Treatments

Daniel Elson is a Professor of Surgical Imaging and Biophotonics in the Hamlyn Centre for Robotic Surgery, Institute of Global Health Innovation and Department of Surgery and Cancer at St. Mary's Hospital. Research interests are based around the development and application of photonics technology to medical imaging, including multispectral imaging, ultrasound-mediated optical tomography, structured lighting, light sources in endoscopy and scattering spectroscopy.

Kelly GleasonKelly Gleason

CRUK Senior Research Nurse

Kelly Gleason manages the translational research team working in our hospitals, provides education and training for the research delivery teams, and coordinates the Patient and Pubic Involvement Group and activities. She also works with the Patient Experience Research Centre to better understand how the developments in personalised medicine are influencing patient experience.

James KinrossDr James Kinross

Theme Lead: Reducing the Burden of Cancer

James Kinross is a consultant colorectal surgeon at St. Mary's Hospital London. His clinical interests are in minimally invasive and laparoscopic surgery for the treatment of colorectal cancer. He also has an interest in surgical nutrition and modulation of the gut microbiota by pro and prebiotics for improved operative outcomes.

He performs translational research into computational and systems biology in surgery. Specifically, he is involved in clinical trials using intra-operative mass spectrometry for improving precision in the surgical treatment of colorectal cancer.

Daniel LeffDaniel Leff

Theme Lead: Increasing the Precision of Cancer Treatments

Daniel Leff is currently a Reader in Breast Surgery working in the Departments of BioSurgery and Surgical Technology and Hamlyn Centre for Robotic Surgery at Imperial College London. He is an Honorary Consultant in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery working within the Breast Unit at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

Iain McNeishProfessor Iain McNeish

Head of the Division of Cancer

Iain McNeish is Professor of Oncology and Head of the Division of Cancer within the Department of Surgery and Cancer. He is also the Director of the Ovarian Cancer Action Research Centre and Cancer theme lead in the Imperial NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (BRC). Externally, he is Chair of the NCRI Gynaecological CSG.

His research focuses on ovarian cancer, specifically developing improved therapies through improved understanding of disease biology.

Zoltan TakatsProfessor Zoltan Takats

Theme Lead: Reducing the Burden of Cancer

Zoltan Takats has pursued pioneering research in mass spectrometry and he is one of the founders of the field of ‘Ambient Mass Spectrometry’. He is the primary inventor of six mass spectrometric ionization techniques. He was the recipient of the prestigious Mattauch-Herzog Award of the German Mass Spectrometry Society and the Hungarian Star Award for Outstanding Innovators. He is the founder of Prosolia Inc, Medimass Ltd and Massprom Ltd, all companies pursuing analytical and medical device development.
