Carers week 2020

The Employee Engagement team within HR are pleased to announce that the College will be holding virtual events to mark National Carers Week, which will take place from 8-14 June. This year’s theme is Making Caring Visible.

The listing below shows the full schedule of internal and external events plus useful resources. Internal College events are taking place on Tuesday (workshop from Carers UK) and on Thursday (networking session).

More information and the events schedule has been published on the Carers webpages, Yammer page and via the Carers mailing list. You can email carersnetwork@imperial.ac.uk if you would like to join the mailing list or have further queries about any of the sessions taking place next week.

In the meantime, don’t forget to sign up to the Employers for Carers platform, which is now offered free to all College staff as part of Carers UK membership. Through the platform, you can access resources such as case studies, expert opinion pieces, essential guides and e-Learning modules. More information can be found here.

  • Carers UK, Care for a Cuppa online chat, 3-3:30pm (Register here).
 Tuesday  
  • Carers UK Health and Wellbeing Share and Learn Session 11-12pm - for all carers across the UK. This online session is a chance to celebrate Carers Week and get fit at the same time! Active Essex instructor Kelly will be taking everyone through some basic exercises that can be done from home to help physical and mental health, as well as answering questions about physical activity.   • College Event- Carers UK Workshop 12:30pm-2pm- A workshop which will be hosted by our new member Carers UK which will go through important topics for staff such as statutory rights for carers, what line managers can do, what carers can do, experiences during COVID-19 and more. This will be followed by a Q&A session. (Register here).

 Wednesday  
  • Virtual workshop for carers- Discussing all things carers. 10:30-12pm (Register here).
  • Online workshop- Speak Clearly Carers 11-12:30pm- How to make an impact to get your message across to professionals is a constant challenge as carers. In this online workshop we will learn some top tips in language, rapport building and assertiveness. Led by Nick Llewellyn, theatre director and NLP trainer.  (Register here)

 Thursday  
  • College Event- Carers Networking Session 10-11am- This network session aims to provide staff with an opportunity for you to meet other carers at work to build networks with your colleagues and help enable mutual support. A HR representative will be there to answer any questions you may have. (Register here).
  • Online Workshop- Creativity 11-12:30pm- How to unlock your own blocks to have some 'me' time for creativity. In this online workshop we will learn how to rewire your stuck patterns and create space to have flashes of creativity throughout your day. Led by Nick Llewellyn, theatre director and NLP trainer.   • My Family Care Webinar, Caring Connecting and Your Career 12:30-1.15pm- Gain important tools and insights to support you as a working carer. This session will explore how carers can build their support networks - both within and outside their workplace - so you have access to the information, support and role models you need to enable you to carry out your caring role and stay on track with your career.
