World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH)
The World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH) is dedicated to capturing & disseminating the best evidence-based ideas and practices in global healthcare.
WISH is an initiative of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), founded by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, its Chairperson. Professor the Lord Darzi of Denham, Director of the Institute of Global Health Innovation at Imperial College London, is the Executive Chair of WISH.
WISH contributes to Qatar’s emerging role as a pioneering center for healthcare innovation, in line with the mission of Qatar Foundation (QF) and Qatar National Vision 2030. By convening the world’s leading experts and high-level decision makers, promoting active learning, creating and disseminating evidence-based content, and showcasing innovations that can really make a difference, we aim to influence healthcare policy globally.
WISH focuses on some of the most pressing and serious global health challenges facing governments, health systems and populations. It brings together internationally renowned experts, who work with advisory groups to publish evidence-based reports on a range of healthcare topics each year.
Chaired by a team of experts drawn from academia, industry and policymaking, the WISH Forums look in depth at the challenges faced in each area – scanning the literature and interviewing experts in the field. The Forum reports present some of the very best innovations that have been shown to have real impact across the developed and developing world. Since its inception, WISH has published 18 reports and more than 500 pages of evidence-based research and content.
One of WISH’s key research areas is the Global Diffusion of Healthcare Innovation (GDHI), a unique comparative study of factors that facilitate the diffusion of innovation in different healthcare systems. In identifying what works well – and why – the aim of the research is to inspire healthcare systems in different countries to learn from each another and share best practice, and encourage the uptake of new ideas to help improve the health and wellbeing of populations worldwide.
WISH has held two summits since its inception. The inaugural summit was held in Doha in December 2013, bringing together more than 1,000 global leaders, government officials, researchers and practitioners from 67 countries. Eight Forum reports were published at the summit on topics including Obesity, Mental Health, Accountable Care, End-of-life, Road Traffic Injury, Patient Engagement, Antimicrobial Resistance, and Big Data and Healthcare.
The second summit took place in Doha in February 2015, convening more than 1200 delegates representing governments, academia and industry. Fifty governments were represented, including 23 ministers. A total of nine reports were published and presented at the summit. Topics included Communicating Complex Health Messages, Delivering Affordable Cancer Care, Dementia, Diabetes, Patient Safety, Maternal and Newborn Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing in Children, and Universal Health Coverage.
Representing some of the world’s most exciting healthcare innovations – ranging from practical devices and business models, to design-based solutions – WISH’s innovation showcases offer a chance for entrepreneurs to exhibit their innovations in front of some of the world’s leading health experts and decision-makers, enabling delegates to engage with these exciting ideas that have the potential to transform global health.
