Beginners (continued)

Italian imageThis 10-hour course for near-beginners is designed to offer students reinforcement of basic knowledge of the Italian language. It also follows on from the preceding beginners’ course and will enable those who attended to consolidate their skills. The course features communicative exercises to help students form sentences and to exchange information about themselves.

The main skills to be aimed at are speaking and listening, complemented by some writing and reading. The syllabus stages to be completed are:

  • Greetings and revision of the use of formal and informal;
  • Expressing times and dates in the present and past;
  • Buying essential items, making complaints;
  • Learning about communicating in different situations, such as hotel reservations;
  • Likes and dislikes;
  • Basic understanding of Italian geography;
  • Finding your way around and asking directions;
  • Describing holidays in the present and past;
  • Personal experience, studies and home environment;
  • Holidays and plans for the future.

Grammatical structures to be introduced and practiced are present tenses, basic past tenses and expressing the future. Agreement of adjectives, direct object pronouns and specific vocabulary.

Conversation (continued)

Italian imageThis course is designed as a 1-hour per week guided conversation class for students above Lower Intermediate level to revise and consolidate their communicative skills (listening & speaking).

The class will consist of a mixed group of students who can communicate beyond basic ability (A1, or near equivalent) and who wish to brush up on their language skills and/or add oral practice to any other course they are already attending.

At Intermediate A2 level, the minimum requirements for this course are that students have studied the language for 1 or 2 years and are familiar with the present and past tenses.

The aims of the course are to increase vocabulary and to develop communicative confidence.

Materials will be designed depending on the needs of the group. Topics will include conversations on daily life, current affairs, and society & culture.
