Structural Mechanics 3
At the end of the lecture course you will be able to: analyse single degree of freedom systems for structural stability; analyse and design fundamental structural components susceptible to instability; evaluate plastic collapse loads for statically indeterminate frames; design framed structures using plastic analysis methods. At the end of the Design, Build and Test Project you will be able to: distinguish and formulate the different functional requirements of a structural component and to conduct local and global structural stability checks and material checks for design strength purposes; convert and realise a design concept into a real prototype; analyse forensically how structures respond under loading; Describe construction alongside health and safety issues and write a risk assessment for working in a structures laboratory.
