New champion at Wye College

The first Provost of Imperial College at Wye will be Professor Tim Clark. Professor Clark will take up the new post following the formal merger of Wye College and Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine on 1 August 2000.

Professor Clark is currently Pro-Rector (Educational Quality) and Professor of Pulmonary Medicine at Imperial College. A specialist in asthma and other chest diseases, he was a consultant physician at Guy's and the Royal Brompton Hospitals, London, for almost 30 years. From 1977-90, he was Professor of Thoracic Medicine and Dean at the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals. He was Dean of the National Heart & Lung Institute on its merger with Imperial College in 1995. He is Vice-Chairman of the National Asthma Campaign Council and of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund.

Commenting on his new appointment, Professor Clark said: "Wye College has a well-deserved reputation for excellence in teaching and research. I am looking forward to acting as Wye's champion and helping to preserve and build on all that is so special here."

He added: "With my medical background, I am particularly excited by the prospect of researchers from Wye and Imperial working together on issues of international importance, from health and animal welfare to sustaining our environment for future generations."
