Awards

Dr Mario Impallomeni, consultant physician in general and geriatric medicine at the Hammersmith and Charing Cross campuses, and honorary senior lecturer, Medicine B,  Faculty of Medicine, has been awarded the National Order of Merit of the Italian Republic by Mr Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, the President of Italy. The title of Commendatore was bestowed by the Italian Ambassador, Mr Luigi Amaduzzi, in a ceremony at the Italian Embassy, for services to Medicine and the Italian Community in Great Britain.

Professor John Studd, Consultant Gynaecologist at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and Professor of Gynaecology at Imperial College London, has received the fourth Kohn Foundation Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution in the field of osteoporosis.

Professor Jim Barber, department of  biological sciences, received the 2002 Flintoff Medal and Prize for meritorious contribution to the knowledge of the relationship between chemistry and botany, at the Royal Society of Chemistry Awards .

Professor Tony Barrett, head of synthesis group, department of chemistry, received the Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award.
