Academy of Medical Sciences Fellows

Eight Imperial leading academics will this week be elected to the Academy of Medical Sciences.

The new Fellows include Professor Charles Bangham, investigative science; Professor Anthony Barrett, chemistry; Professor Sir Ara Darzi, surgery, anaesthetics and intensive care, and Paul Farrell, director, Ludwig Institute for cancer research.

Amanda Fisher, joint head and honorary professor of cell Biology, clinical sciences centre; Professor Ilpo Huhtaniemi, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology; Professor Francesco Muntoni, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, and Professor Jeremy Saklatvala, Kennedy Institute of rheumatology, will also be admitted to the Fellowship.

Imperial now has 71 Fellows in the Academy of Medical Sciences out of a total of 700. Professor Sir Leszek Borysiewicz, principal of Imperial College faculty of medicine said: "This is excellent news for Imperial and for the new Fellows themselves. Imperial has long been at the forefront of translational clinical research, and I am very pleased that those doing world class research are receiving the recognition they richly deserve."
