Seal of Approval for Wye’s Equine Unit

For Immediate Use
16 December 2003

The Equine Unit at Imperial College London's Wye Campus has been given the seal of approval by the British Horse Society.

The 5 year-old Unit has been passed as a BHS Approved Livery Establishment. The Unit has stabling for up to 25 horses and other facilities including an outdoor ménage, solarium and excellent hacking with permissive routes across the Colleges farm estate.

Many of the Units users are students studying for Bachelor of Science degrees in Equine Science and Equine Business Management. Among them is Hetty Stearn, a 2nd year EBM student, who took 4th place for Great Britain in the recent Student National Cup in Germany.

The BHS runs a system of approving livery yards throughout the UK. Each establishment is inspected to ensure that a satisfactory level of horse care, welfare and facilities exists. Anyone looking for a livery yard is advised to check for BHS registration.

Supervisor of Wye's Equine Unit is Carrie Jarvis BHSAI who says: "BHS approval is not given lightly and everyone connected with the Unit is thrilled that our high standards have been recognised in this way."
