Tanaka fills new inhouse Marketing and PR positions

Tanaka Business School in Imperial College London has made two new appointments to enhance its national and international standing as a world class business school.

Deborah Kelliher is the Schools's first ever Marketing and Communications Manager. Leading a five section team, Deborah has responsibility for developing and driving forward the marketing plan for the School and raising awareness of Tanaka.

Susie Haywood has also been appointed as the School's first Press and PR Manager. Susie, previously Media Relations Manager for the RAC, has responsibility for national and international media and PR work for all areas of the School. Incumbent agency Consolidated Communications will continue to provide ongoing support for projects as needed.

Tanaka Prinicpal, Professor David Begg, said the appointments were crucial to the success of the School's business objectives: "Our vision is to create a world class business school with real commercial intelligence based on an enviable record of academic excellence, but the competition from other schools is fierce, so we need the best people to sell in our unique position in business education.

"The news this week that Tanaka has jumped 22 places in the international full time MBA rankings makes it even more imperative to have first class communications talent. We know where we want to be; now we have the people who can provide the strategic thinking and the energy to get us there.

"Deborah has 14 years' experience in financial services, including eight years in the City. Her expertise in managing a wide range of marketing and communications functions means we can develop a comprehensive marketing strategy that will really start to challenge our larger, more established competitors.

"We also wanted someone with the media skills and gravitas required to act as the School's media ambassador. Susie's print and broadcast interview experience on a wide range of topics, as well as her excellent reputation for building media relationships and driving stories are exactly what we need if we are to seriously compete for media voice with our UK and international competitors.

"After our successful launch as Tanaka last year, Deborah and Susie are now charged with driving the excellence of our innovation, our research and our facilities to audiences and media around the globe."
