Imperial College London - Tanaka Business School Press Release

For immediate release
Tuesday 8 February 2005

With the commitment by the Irish Government to growing Dublin as an international technology-driven financial services sector, as well as Ireland having a significant ICT sector, one of the busiest stands at this year's Postgradireland fair will be Tanaka Business School, Imperial College London.

Tanaka MBA Programme Manager, Simon Buller, said Tanaka offered Irish students the technological edge required by forward looking companies in Ireland:

"Tanaka offers all of the classic business skills you would expect from top post graduate programmes but with a twist. At Tanaka you are at the heart of Imperial College, one of the world's top universities for science, technology, medicine and mathematics. Our graduates acquire the latest business expertise in an environment that understands both the commercial requirements of emerging technologies and the growing knowledge economy.

"Uniquely, Tanaka is the only business school in the world to enable students to hone their business skills on a Technology Venture Project, a live commercial feasibility study on a piece of Imperial College technology. This is done in partnership with Imperial Innovations, the spin out arm of Imperial College and one of the UK's leading technology transfer companies.

"The fair organisers expect over 2,500 visitors, many of whom will want to know about the benefits of studying at Tanaka, especially as we jumped 22 places in the Financial Times' world MBA rankings last month. Our MBA is ranked 1st in Europe and 5th in the world for entrepreneurship and Tanaka teams are regularly placed in the top five in the European Business Plan Competition.

"There are also the obvious benefits of living and studying in London, which is generally considered to now be the business capital of the world by many business schools, so much so that other business schools are relocating to London."

Martin O'Mahony, from Wexford, is currently studying for an MSc in Finance at Tanaka and said the school's London location was just one of the attractions: "Imperial is such a well known college with high academic standards, so I knew it would stand me in good stead - and Tanaka is a great place from which to launch an international finance career."

Irish alumnus Niamh Lennox-Chhugani is Director of her own consulting company specialising in health sector advisory work. After working as a clinician and clinical manager for ten years, Niamh enrolled in the Tanaka MSc Health Management, graduating in 2002: "I chose Tanaka because of the international reputation of Imperial's Faculty of Medicine as well as the business school - and I found the course to be immensely practical but yet sufficiently academic to fulfil my thirst for knowledge."

Notes to editors:

Simon and other Tanaka colleagues can be found at Stand 11, Industries Hall, RDS, Bainbridge, Dublin 4. The fair runs from 1.00pm to 7.00pm on Thursday 10 February, and more information can be found at www.postgradireland.com .
