A fifth university has today joined the network of Europe's leading technical universities. The IDEA League, the partnership of technical universities set up in 1999 by Imperial College London, TU Delft, ETH Zurich and RWTH Aachen, now has a new member: ParisTech.

In a joint memorandum of understanding the five universities re-affirmed their commitment to intensive cooperation, the focus of which is the internationalisation of academic training and the undertaking of joint research projects.

Over the last few years, the IDEA League institutions have developed joint principles for quality assurance. For example, the partner universities are striving to increase the vertical mobility of their students by means of a special grant. Vertical mobility in this context means student exchanges after successful completion of the first three years of study, after obtaining their Bachelor's degree, for example. The students can then study for a Master's degree at one of the five IDEA universities. The IDEA League organises summer schools and workshops in support of this scheme.

The aim of the network is to achieve a leading position among European universities through high-level research, academic training and innovation. The representatives of the IDEA League will meet each year to assess the results of the various projects and set out the guidelines for continuing cooperation.
