With the composites research staff in the College spread across a broad range of disciplines, the Centre has been able to develop an unusually diverse research portfolio. This diversity is evident in the range of composite materials studied which includes polymer, ceramic and metal matrix materials, nano-, short and long fibre reinforcement types.

The nature of the research conducted usually combines model development and experimental investigation and ranges from fundamental, exploratory research to very focused research targeted at the immediate needs of industry. The research programmes are funded by a wide variety of sources including MOD, DTI, EPSRC, EU and a broad spectrum of industries.
