Electric Labs is a small digital agency specialising in creating mobile applications and websites. Our clients come from a variety of industries ranging from television and fashion, to publishing and furniture wholesale. I really enjoy my work as I get to do lots of development, while learning about new industries.
I did the 4 year MEng Computing course and graduated in 2001. I then stayed on to do a PhD. When I first visited the department to decide whether to study at Imperial, I was really impressed with facilities and how friendly everyone was.
Another factor in my decision to chose Imperial was because it’s in London. To someone from a small northern town, London seemed like the center of the universe! London is a great city and has so much to offer. I like to keep fit and healthy and in my spare time I would go running around Hyde Park.
Name: Chris Anderson
Company: Electric Labs
Graduated: MEng Joint Mathematics and Computing (2001)
In terms of the course, I enjoyed the mix of theoretical and practical elements. Computing is a subject that moves very quickly and you always worry about staying current. To help us achieve that, we were taught the fundamental principles and a solid problem solving methodology, plus given the opportunity of an industrial placement programme. I was lucky enough to go to IBM and it was great to apply what I had learnt in a real world setting.
After graduating, I worked for various software houses, and I eventually decided I wanted to start a company with a friend. The network of friends I built at Imperial has become a great resource for our business.
