Dr Katherine Anagnostou
Dr Aikaterini (Katherine) Anagnostou graduated from Aristotle University Medical School with first class honours, in 2000. She has trained in paediatrics in Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge and in Great Ormond Street and the Royal Brompton Hospital, London.

Over the last 6 years she has trained exclusively in paediatric allergy, initially undertaking research in peanut allergy and subsequently as a clinician in paediatric allergy at St Thomas’ Hospital. Katherine was awarded her PhD from Cambridge University, focusing on a trial of peanut oral immunotherapy in children, which attracted a lot of media interest all over the world. Her main research findings were recently published in the medical journal, The Lancet. She has a special interest in mechanisms underlying food immunotherapy and has presented her work in both national and international meetings. Katherine regularly teaches in Allergy Academy and MSc Allergy courses.

Professor Peter GJ Burney
Peter Burney is Professor of Respiratory Epidemiology and Public Health at the National Heart and Lung Institute, and Honorary Consultant Physician at Royal Brompton Hospital, London.

The research of the Unit focuses on the epidemiology of respiratory and allergic diseases including asthma, food allergy and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It undertakes policy relevant research to assess the main factors influencing the onset and exacerbation and outcome from disease. Much of the work is carried out in multi-centre collaborations, predominantly in Europe. The Unit has led the European Community Respiratory Health Survey since its inception in 1988 and this has produced over 200 papers and its results have been used extensively in reviews of asthma policy. Other international studies include the Europrevall study on food allergy and the BOLD project on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Professor Burney is also the vice-chairman of the GA2LEN network of excellence on allergy and asthma and the co-chair of its research committee and co-chair of the Global Burden of Disease sub-group on chronic respiratory disease.

Dr Helen E Cox
Dr. Helen Cox is a Consultant in Paediatric Allergy and Immunology at St. Mary's Hospital Paddington where she is on of the lead clinicians. Although her work encompasses all aspects of paediatric allergy, her major area of interest i s in the young child with severe eczema. She was previousl y involved in research into the genetics of atopic eczema and is currently participating in the NICE guideline development for atopic eczema in children.

Dr Claudia Gore
Claudia Gore is currently practicing as a consultant paediatric allergist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS trust in London. She trained in paediatric medicine in the North West and in paediatric allergy in London. She did her research under the auspices of Professor Adnan Custovic at the University of Manchester and was awarded her PhD in 2006 for work on: "Atopic dermatitis in early childhood - effect of probiotic intervention, role of gastrointestinal permeability and microflora & quality of life implications".

Dr Rosan Meyer
Rosan completed her degree in Dietetics (1995) as well as Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics (1996) in South Africa. She specialised in paediatric nutrition in the United Kingdom, focusing on nutr itional support, feeding behaviour and allergy. She started working at St. Mary's Hospital in 1998. Since then she has been working with the allergy team in managing children with allergies. In 2004 she went on to finish her Masters in Paediatric Nutrition, focusing on paediatric gastroenterology, allergies, nutritional assessment and feeding support. She has completed her PhD in 2008 in energy expenditure in critically ill children at Imperial College London and has a practice with a specialist focus in childhood allergies and feeding difficulties.

Dr Isabel Skypala
Isabel is the Director of Rehabilitation and Therapies at the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust. Isabel has practised as a specialist allergy dietitian for more than 25 years, her main clinical experience being with adult patients. Isabel completed a postgraduate diploma in Allergy at Southampton in 2006 and is currently undertaking a doctorate in the diagnosis of Oral Allergy Syndrome. Isabel also lectures nationally to both undergraduate and Masters level students on food allergy at Imperial, Kings College and The University of Southampton, and has been an invited speaker at several national conferences. She has co-edited/written a book called Food Hypersensitivity, aimed at those working in primary and secondary care. Isabel was a founder member of the Food Allergy and Intolerance Specialist dietitians group of the BDA. She chaired the group from its inception in 2003 and continues to be an active member, both as its research and education lead and represents this group on the Council of the BSACI. She has recently set up the International Network of Dietitians and Nutritionists in Allergy (INDANA) with Dr Carina Venter and Dr Berber Vleig. She has also acted in an advisory capacity to both the Department of Health and the Food Standards Agency on food allergy.

Carina Venter
Carina is a currently appointed as a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Portsmouth where she has a Post Doctoral position in the area of Food Hypersensitivity (FHS). She recently completed her PhD from the University of Southampton investigating the prevalence and incidence of FHS in childhood. She is also working as a Senior Dietitian at The David Hide Asthma and Allergy Research Centre where she sees adult and paediatric patients, as well as taking part in research. Her research career in Food Hypersensitivity started at the David Hide Centre followed by studying the Postgraduate Diploma in the Mechanisms and Management of Allergic Disease at the University of Southampton and she now lectures in this course.

Carina is a member of the advisory board of Allergy UK and deals regularly with nutritional queries from members of the public. She is also a member of the European Academy for Allergy and Clinical Immunology, the British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology, American Academy of Asthma, Allergy and Immunology and the British Dietetic Association as well as the UK representative of the American Overseas Dietetic Association.She has had a number of publications in international journals and has authored book chapters in FHS.

Tanya Wright
Tanya Wright is a registered dietitian specialising in the diagnosis and management food allergy and other food hypersensitivity reactions. She works within Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust with both adults and children. Her role there is to coordinate the allergy service, to manage her clinical dietetic workload including performing skin prick testing and diagnostic diets and to organise and deliver the food challenge service. She provides information and resources on allergy for other healthcare professionals within and outside the Trust.

She is author of 3 books; Food Allergies: Enjoying Life with a Severe Food Allergy (Class Publishing 2001, 2007), and 2 colour recipe books ‘Allergy-free Food' (Hamlyn 2002) a milk free cookbook for infants (Cow & Gate 2006) and has contributed to a book entitled ‘latex Intolerance' (CRC press 2005) and various other publications.She regularly lectures at both National conferences and on the post graduate Masters allergy course at Southampton. She writes articles and recipes for special diet food companies, formula milk companies, magazines, newspapers, websites and supermarket chains. She is a regular consultant to the food industry, to Allergy Support Associations and to other health professionals.

Tanya is on the Committee of several organisations including the British Dietetic Association food allergy and intolerance specialist group (FAISG) where she contributes to the production of position papers and is the resources officer providing national updates on special diet products, recipes and resources that aid the diagnosis and management of allergy and other food hypersensitivity reactions. She is also on the steering group committee for the International dietitians allergy group INDANA.
