Imperial vs LSBU SPE, 1st leg
A fantastic game enjoyed by everyone on the day. The first leg of this two-game friendly series was played at the Imperial home fortress: Holland Park.
After a shaky start, Imperial gained the upper hand with a fine piece of footwork leading to the opening goal from the team’s leading goal-scorer Jide Balogun. Two more quickly followed, with support striker Vincent Avena playing a crucial part in both before scoring a deserved fourth for his opening goal of the season. LBSU appeared shaken going into the break.
After a few strong words from their manager they looked a different team, and rallied in the second half with several periods of sustained pressure. Some fine last ditch defending saved the Imperial score line.
Just as it was looking like LBSU were on the cusp of their first goal, a strong run and clear finish from left back Robbie Lewis relieved the pressure on the Imperial backline.
This was quickly followed with another Imperial strike and the game looked to be over. LBSU didn’t lose focus however, and were rewarded with conciliation from almost the final kick of the game.
The second leg at LBSU away will be a tough challenge, and we are expecting a team looking for a reprisal.
Final score: Imperial 6 - LBSU 1
