Car parking space across all College campuses is limited, particularly during office hours. Find out if you can park by selecting the appropriate location below.

Conference and events parking

If you require parking at a College conference or event, you should advise the conference or event organisers of your requirements in advance.

Can I book?

No, conference and events delegates cannot book with the Car Park Office directly. All bookings are via the conference or event organisers.

Information for Conference and Event Organisers

  • For parking at conferences and events the College Conference Office or internal event organisers must make prior arrangements with the Car Park Office.
  • The Car Park Office will supply options/details of parking arrangements and charges related to specific conferences and events.
  • A limited number of spaces may be reserved for conference delegates for the duration of a conference.
  • If all spaces are occupied, delegates must find alternative parking arrangements off campus.
  • Parking spaces booked by the Conference/Events Office are chargeable to either the client or Campus Services.

Contingent workers parking

Contingent workers do not have an entitlement to park other than as visitors or as members of the general public, charged at the published rates.

They may be issued with College ID Card cards for reason of access and identification purposes although they are not employees of the College.  Examples of such workers include staff from agencies, consultants and construction workers.

Contractor parking

Approved contractors can park free of charge providing you have been booked in by the Project Manager or the Building Manager employing you.

When can I park?

Pre-booked contractors can park during the following times:

  • Monday to Friday 07:00 to 18:00

If alternative hours are required, they must be approved by the Car Park Office.

Overnight parking is not permitted.

Parking space is restricted and cannot be guaranteed.

Can I book?

No, contractors cannot book with the Car Park Office directly. All bookings must be made by the Project Manager or Building Manager with at least 24 hours notice.

When you are arranging your visit, please advise the Project or Building Manager that you require parking and it will be booked for you.

Delivery and collection

All deliveries and collections should be made during the following times:

  • Monday to Sunday - 06.00 to 00.00 (midnight).

Under 30 minutes

All deliveries and collections are granted short term parking free of charge. The barrier will lift automatically for all departures within 30 minutes.

Deliveries

Short term parking for deliveries is in loading and delivery areas only.

Other vehicles

The Gatehouse will advise where other vehicles, including taxis, can park to drop off or pick up passengers and make collections.

More than 30 minutes

Deliveries

Deliveries over 30 minutes must be pre-booked by the Departmental Parking Representatives only or will be subject to standard public parking charges.

All bookings must be made via the relevant Departmental Parking Representative with at least 24 hours notice.

Other vehicles

After 30 minutes standard public parking charges apply, payable on exit for all other vehicles, including taxis.

Public parking

During evenings and weekend the South Kensington car park is open to the public on a chargeable basis.

When can I park?

Outside office hours:

  • Monday to Friday – 18.00 to 00.00 hours (midnight). 
  • Saturday and Sunday – 07.00 to 00.00 hours (midnight).

Overnight parking is not permitted.

No one will be permitted to enter the car park outside the hours stated above.

Can I book?

No bookings are taken. We operate as a normal public car park outside of office hours, so spaces are subject to availability.

What vehicle can I park?

Parking is only available for cars. There are no facilities for minibuses or large vehicles to park.

How much does it cost?

Car parking is subject to availability and costs £3 per hour.

I am visiting the Royal Albert Hall

If you are visiting the Royal Albert Hall parking should be reserved through them when you book your event.

Car park booking with the Royal Albert Hall is strictly outside of office hours:

  • Monday to Friday – 18.00 to 00.00 hours (midnight).
  • Saturday and Sunday – 07.00 to 00.00 hours (midnight).

Staff parking

This information applies to staff members and postgraduates who do not hold parking permits.

All those parking at Imperial College are required to read and adhere to the car parking regulations.

Staff non permit-holders

College staff can park free of charge at the South Kensington car park outside office hours; strictly not before 6pm or after midnight on weekdays, see below for full details. NB Any driver parking after midnight will incur a parking charge of £30. To leave a car parked after midnight prior permission must be sought from Anne-Marie Clarke.

Parking is available to staff College members on presentation of their valid College ID card at the Exhibition Road gatehouse. The staff member must be the driver. College ID cards are strictly non transferable; ID cards not in the possession of their rightful owner will be retained by Security. If a valid ID is not presented by its owner the standard public parking charges apply.

When can I park?

  • Saturday and Sunday – 07.00 to 00.00 hours (midnight).

Parking is not permitted during the College Festival and Summer Ball weekends. Overnight parking is always prohibited.

Can I park during office hours?

Members of staff who do not hold an annual parking permit can book a parking space on campus on a very occasional basis. The booking will not be charged for, subject to the following criteria:

  • The reason for bringing a car into work is directly related to the ability to carry out an important task as part of their role at the College.
  • The booking is made with the Car Parking Office at least 24 hours in advance.
  • Individuals only make very occasional use of this facility.

Student parking

Undergraduates

Can I park?

No. Undergraduate students are not permitted to park at the South Kensington campus at any time, with the exception of students with disabilities.

Postgraduates

Can I park?

Parking is available to current postgraduate College members on presentation of their valid College ID card at the Exhibition Road gatehouse. The postgraduate must be the driver of the vehicle. College ID cards are strictly non-transferable; ID cards not in the possession of their rightful owner or that have expired will be retained by Security.  If a valid ID is not presented by its owner the standard public parking charges apply.  We have limited parking and at times there will be no availability; the car park may be closed entirely, due to College Festival for example.  If we do not have a suitable parking bay available when you arrive on site, we will have to refuse entry.  Security staff are following strict instruction in this regard and inappropriate behaviour or abuse will not be tolerated; your details will be taken and reported for remedial action. 

Current Postgraduates may park only between 6:00 pm and Midnight and at weekends between 07:00 am – midnight. Postgraduates are strictly not allowed entry on site before 6.00 pm, entry will be refused by the Gatehouse prior to that time. No parking after midnight is permitted; unauthorised parking after midnight will be charged applicable rates. There is a £30.00 charge for unauthorised overnight parking.

Current Postgraduates with disabilities may be eligible for a disabled parking permit which would enable them to park during office hours.

Visitor parking

Official College visitors can park free of charge providing they have been booked in by the Parking Representative of the Department or team they are visiting. Bookings must be made at least 24 hours in advance.
