About the event

Many of us are re-evaluating our careers because of the current crisis: some are considering a wholly new direction.

But what kind of career change is realistic in a downturn? How long does it take? And how confident can we be of success at the end?

In this webinar, Professor Herminia Ibarra will share her ground-breaking research into how successful career change happens, and how the process of change differs at different stages of your life.

We will examine:

  • Why you cannot plan your way to career change
  • Why you should expect a miserable middle during transition
  • Why family and friends may not be able to help you as much as you think (and why loose contacts may help more)
  • How long career change normally takes

We will also look at some of the research-based techniques that can help you accelerate your transition:

  • The critical role of experimentation
  • Why side projects are so valuable and which ones work best
  • How you can manage risk and track progress with regular reflection
