Dr Fadil Bidmos

My doctoral research in the lab of Prof Chris Bayliss included an investigation into the contributions of two phase-variable iron-acquisition systems to meningococcal virulence using an ex vivo human whole blood model and an assessment of the vaccine candidacy of these proteins. As a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Professor Langford, I successfully employed a powerful approach involving the cloning of functional human monoclonal antibodies (hmAbs) from convalescing patients (Reverse Vaccinology 2.0, or RV 2.0) in the search for both meningococcal and pneumococcal protein vaccine candidates. My ongoing 5-year UK MRC Career Development Award (CDA, 2019 – 2024) involves the development of a novel and cheap-to-produce meningococcal-pneumococcal glycoconjugate vaccine, using RV 2.0, panproteome microarrays and in vivo glycoengineering.
