Music for the Service

The opening Anthem is God be in my head by Herbert Howells (1892-1983) who was tutor of composition at the Royal College of Music.

The Verses and Responses are by Thomas Ebdon (1738–1811).

The musical setting for the Psalm is by Maria Portela (a current student at Imperial College).

The music for the Canticles, the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis, is by Thomas Tertius Noble (1867-1953) and is in B Minor. Noble was an organ student and teacher at the Royal College of Music.

The closing Anthem is ‘We shall walk through the Valley in Peace’ by the American composer Undine Smith Moore, co-founder of the Black Music Center at Virginia State University.
