Join the Department of Infectious Disease for the next Infection Rounds event

Infection Rounds bring together clinicians and scientists working in infectious disease to discuss clinical cases and the latest scientific developments.

All are welcome to join us via Teams on Wednesday 26 January, 16:00-17:00, to hear two fascinating talks:

Anika Singanayagam (Clinical Lecturer, Adult Infectious Disease): ‘Unexpected detection of vaccine-derived poliovirus in the UK’

  • To present 2 clinical cases (+ background about polio) for which her involvement arose during work for UKHSA
  • Dr Anika Singanayagam is a Clinical Lecturer in the Section of Adult Infectious Disease. Her research interests are in the virology and transmission of respiratory viruses, with a current focus on a human challenge model of SARS-CoV-2. Anika works clinically as an SpR in Infectious Diseases and as an honorary clinical fellow in the Virus Reference Department of UKHSA.

Julien Vaubourgeix (Lecturer in Molecular Microbiology): ‘Multiform antimicrobial resistance in mycobacteria’

  • After completing his PhD at the Institute of Pharmacology and Structural Biology in 2009 in Toulouse, France, Julien joined the laboratory of Dr Carl Nathan at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York, before joining the CMBI. His lab at the CMBI studies how bacteria transiently survive exposure to antibiotics in the absence of genetic changes, a phenomenon known as antibiotic persistence. . In particular, his interests include uncovering the molecular mechanisms by which persisters arise so we can target them therapeutically.
