The Grantham Institute is collaborating with Imperial College London's Centre for Environmental Policy and Energy Futures Lab to create a Centre for Cleantech Innovation at Imperial's new White City Campus. The Centre will support students, inventors, innovators and entrepreneurs to develop business solutions for a sustainable and resilient low-carbon future. By co-locating start-ups with academia, we aim to establish a world-class cluster for innovation and business development, to deliver market-ready commercial solutions to address climate mitigation, adaptation and anticipation.

Imperial has a long history of success in delivering real businesses and a pipeline of clean tech entrepreneurs. The Centre for Cleantech Innovation will seamlessly merge learning with practical and tangible enterprise development in partnership with the best academics, global corporates and innovative companies. It will draw on Imperial’s world-class facilities, science and engineering knowhow, business expertise and networks in order to help catalyse this century’s great economic transformation.

Richard Templer presenting"As founding partners of the Climate-KIC, the Centre for Cleantech Innovation has over eight years of experience in supporting students, researchers, business and start-ups develop cleantech innovations into successful businesses, supporting the creation of 80 new cleantech businesses since 2012
They are successful pioneers - raising over $140M of investment, creating more than 500 jobs and beginning to shape the low carbon economy. We are proud of the recognition their achievements have received - and the Centre at White City will allow us to enhance and improve on this success. Our intent is that it will catalyse the broader development of cleantech in London, such that London becomes a world-leading contributor to a sustainable and resilient low-carbon future." - Professor Richard Templer, Director of Innovation, Grantham Institute

Working with the Greater London Authority

The ambition of the Centre for Cleantech Innovation is to help London to become a leading cleantech city. In parallel with our own plans, we are engaged in discussions with the Greater London Authority about how the centre might catalyse the creation of a Cleantech Innovation Cluster in and around White City. The centre is referenced in several key policy documents, released at the start of 2018.

"West London offers a unique set of opportunities to support the growth of this sector, with the development of a major innovation campus by Imperial College at White City
