Assessment of the mitigation potential of key technologies
This strand of work aims to evaluate and improve the mitigation potential of existing and emerging technologies, both individually and as components of emerging low-carbon energy systems. The characteristics of politically and economically feasible and appropriate low-carbon systems will vary depending on a range of factors including scale and purpose, the availability and price of fossil and non-fossil energy sources and level of economic development. We focus on the power generation and industrial sectors, with particular attention paid to new solar technologies, carbon capture and storage (CCS), negative emissions (i.e. taking CO2out of the atmosphere), low-carbon heating and transport.
