ICE - Development Opportunities - General job-seeking skills

USE THIS PAGE TO COMPLETE COLUMNS 4, 5 AND 6 OF YOUR PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN.

The Careers Service provides lots of help and advice on general job seeking skills such as writing CVs and dealing with assessment centres. The Careers Service Library holds over 30 books on the application process as well as several videos, and there are plenty of materials to take away including booklets and information leaflets. You will also find some other publications for sale such as Advanced Managerial Tests and Information Technology Tests. These are designed to give you a head start in the processes often used for selection and recruitment.

You can also book careers interviews at the Careers Service Enquiry Desk. One hour appointments are available in the mornings at 10am or 11 am and half an hour appointments in the afternoons between 2pm and 4pm. During the Autumn term quick query slots are available from 2pm to 4pm, and again these can be booked via the Enquiry Desk. Your Department or Division should also have its own careers advisor, who should be your first point of contact if you wish to choose a higher degree or job directly related to your studies. Refer to the "Career Choice" booklet from the Careers Service for a full listing of these people and contact details.

Finally, in addition to the large number of books on the subject of application and selection processes, there are also many websites, which contain useful information on this and careers in general. Several of these are given below:
