Many courses will encourage you to give presentations, either formally as part of an assessment or informally to other members of your tutorial group. Make the most of these opportunities and ask for feedback as practice often makes perfect.
Involvement in staff/student committees can also help you to get used to expressing an opinion to a large group in a formal setting; check your Department’s web pages or contact your Departmental/Divisional administrator to find out how to get involved. Other committees include those belonging to student societies and clubs; for information on these go to the Students' Union website
Whilst taking on tutoring roles in schools can help you to get used to presenting facts (take a look at the Pimlico website for further information), other voluntary organisations may need people to take part in more theatrical things such as hosting fashion or radio shows. (If you are interested in this type of activity, take a look at the LETEC web pages.
Employer led workshops are also available, some of which focus on presentation skills. These are worth attending to see how presentations, should (or should not) be done.
Mock-interview sessions can be particularly helpful, as in essence these are about presenting yourself. Check the “Career Choice” booklet from the Careers Service, the notice-boards and Careers Service website for information on when these are available.
