General Finance stream

All trainees on the General Finance stream of the Scheme undertake a range of placements across the College. The following pages give examples of where a trainee might work, but all trainees on this stream take an individual path through the scheme. There are opportunities for placements in other Departments or Divisions not listed here; the scheme is flexible which enables it to best meet the needs of both the College and the trainee. Placements in specific areas of work cannot be guaranteed but the Scheme Director takes into account the preferences and aspirations of the trainee when allocating placements where possible.

Financial accounting stream

All trainees on the Financial accounting stream of the Scheme will spend the three years developing their technical accounting knowledge in the Financial Reporting team. They will become a specialist in Financial accounting and reporting, working in the Financial Reporting team which is responsible for the production of the College’s year end accounts, with exposure to the senior leadership team and external auditors. Over the three years, they will gain in-depth technical accounting knowledge, provide recommendations for the accounting treatment of complex transactions to senior management and become a key contact for the external auditors. The following pages provide an example of the experience a trainee on this stream might get when they join the team. The successful candidate may also be asked to get involved in other projects outside of the Financial accounting and reporting area to support their development.
