Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and versatile researcher with a very solid background in mathematical modelling, epidemiology of infectious diseases (particularly sexually transmitted infections), statistical analysis and meta analytic reviews with experience of conducting analysis to efficiently answer important and timely public health questions. You should also have demonstrated leadership and coordinating qualities and be able to work on a portfolio of projects as well as have very good presentation skills, work to tight deadlines, and be able to travel.

Duties and responsibilities

The range of projects that you may be involved in will be in the field of prevention of sexually transmitted infections, such as HSV-2 HPV, and HIV in different risk populations (e.g. FSW, MSM, PWID) and settings, with a focus on resource poor settings, to inform public health decision-making. There might be opportunities to work on Covid-19.

Depending on qualifications and expertise, you may be responsible for all stages of mathematical modelling project from the development and coding of the mathematical model, model calibration, and the modelling analysis, and/or work, as part of a wider team, on specific tasks on collaborative projects, which may include model calibration, secondary statistical data analysis and /or comprehensive systematic reviews and meta-analysis. Evidence of previous hands-on research experience and ability to lead several projects in parallel will be an asset.  You will be expected to present at international conferences, publish in peer reviewed journals and be able to travel to international meetings.

This is a very rewarding position among a dynamic team of international multi-disciplinary collaborators. The results of this study will inform STI and HIV control programs and international agencies. This work is partly funded by UNITAID and the HPTN modelling centre (HPTNmodelling.org), McGill University, and WHO.  

Essential requirements

You should have a MSc in epidemiological modelling, infectious disease epidemiology, ecology, population biology, mathematics, statistics, theoretical physics, computer science or an alternative highly quantitative discipline. You will have a vision, able to deliver to deadlines, to work and communicate regularly with the team at Imperial College and elsewhere as required. Working knowledge of French is desirable.

This post is full time and fixed term until 30 June 21 and will be based at the St Mary’s Campus, Paddington. Imperial College is supportive of flexible working.
