The Thin Film Technology Laboratory was founded by Professor Neil Alford, FREng, MBE and Dr Peter Petrov in 2001. As part of  the London Centre for Nanotechnology (LCN) it provides both UCL and Imperial's Department of Materials and the Department of Physics with facilities for nano-scale thin film deposition, device patterning and electrical characterisation.

The Thin Film Technology Laboratory is run by Dr Peter Petrov with support from Dr Bin Zou (PDRA) and PhD students Mr Evgeniy Donchev and Tianle Wang.

Academic research is led by Professor Neil Alford MBE FREng , Dr Peter Petrov, Dr Michelle Moram and Dr David Payne.
