Autumn term 2020-21 news

This course will begin on schedule in Autumn and we look forward to seeing new and returning students in person, if travel and visa arrangements allow. If students can’t travel to campus in time for the start of term, the Department has made plans to still provide them a high-quality remote educational experience during the Autumn term.

Teaching will be a combination of on-campus (in-person) and remote learning (online), known as ‘multi-mode’ delivery. The balance in the ‘multi-mode’ offering may be subject to change. We will do our best to provide you increased on-campus teaching and research activities as we progress throughout the year. For more information about multi-mode delivery, the learning experience and the steps we’ll be taking to keep students safe on campus, please see our Covid-19 information for applicants and offer holders page.

We will update our course pages with further details once they are finalised.

The Mathematics Careers Speed Dating is an annual careers event in October/early November organised by the Mathematics Department and the Careers Advisory Service. The event is open to 2nd - 4th year undergraduate students and MSc students.

Format of the event

Different to normal careers fairs, the event has students in small groups moving around a room to meet with representatives from various industries in a speed dating fashion, enabling both companies and students to see a number of people in a short period of time. After the rounds of “dating”, the room is opened up for free networking, so that students can follow up with more questions or meet with representatives they were unable to see in the rounds.

Aim of the event

The hope is that the visiting industry representatives are former mathematics graduates and Imperial alumni, enabling students to gain a better understanding of possible career paths in mathematics and truly understand how mathematics is used in different organisations.

Current students will receive sign up information via email at the start of the new academic year.
